The outpatient clinic for coagulation disorders

The outpatient clinic for coagulation disorders is the central contact point for the medical evaluation of thrombotic or bleeding tendencies. We offer the following range of services:

Thrombotic Tendency

• Laboratory diagnostic evaluation of congenital (e.g. Factor V Leiden Thrombophilia and Prothrombin Mutation G20210A) and acquired prothrombotic coagulation disorders (e.g. antiphospholipid syndrome)
• Individual counseling regarding a risk adapted thromboprophylaxis for patients with congenital thrombophilia
• Recommendations on the type and the duration of anticoagulation after venous or arterial thromboembolism
• Therapy monitoring (INR Monitoring) in patients undergoing oral anticoagulation with vitamin K antagonists (e.g. Marcumar®)
• Monitoring an antiaggregation therapy with Acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) or P2Y12-antagonists (e.g. Clopidogrel)
• Concrete recommendations for bridging an antithrombotic therapy in the course of invasive procedures or surgery (Bridging)
• Recommendations regarding indication, application and side-effect profile of the new oral thrombin and factor Xa-inhibitors
• Support and care for pregnant women with increased risk of abortion or vascular risk factors

• Clinical and laboratory diagnosis of unclear bleeding tendency
• Further diagnostic workup of abnormal coagulation parameters (e.g. in pre-operative routine laboratory tests)
• Diagnostics and therapy of secondary von-Willebrand syndrome and acquired autoimmune hemophilia (Hemmkörperhämophilie)
• Individual recommendations for factor substitution and for supportive hemostaseologic therapy in surgery or invasive procedures
• Review of the effectiveness and tolerability of DDAVP (desmopressin) in patients with von-Willebrand Syndrome or mild hemophilia

Hemophilia Center

In the hemophilia center, a highly specialized team of doctors and nursing staff treats patients with congenital or acquired bleeding tendencies.

We specialize in the treatment of the following diseases:

• Classic hemophilia (hemophilia A and B)
• Carriers for Hemophilia A or B
• Von-Willebrand syndrome
• Rare factor deficiency diseases e.g. Deficiency of factor I, II, V, VII, X, XI, and XIII
• Thrombocytopathies
• Acquired autoimmune hemophilia (Hemmkörperhemophilie)

As a Comprehensive Care Center (CCC) and designated European CCC as well as one of the largest treatment centers in Northern Germany, the Hemophilia Center offers comprehensive and individual treatment in close cooperation with colleagues in the Department for Pediatric Hematology and Oncology.

We also maintain good and trusting collaborations with other departments.

• Diagnostics and therapy of orthopedic secondary diseases in the Center for Hemophilia and Orthopedic Secondary Diseases (CHOD)
